Alex de Minaur Injured, Withdraws From Wimbledon Quarterfinal

No. 22 Seed Was Set to Face Novak Djokovic But Injury Proves Too Severe

Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur has withdrawn from his Wimbledon quarterfinal match against second seed Novak Djokovic due to a hip injury. The 24-year-old de Minaur suffered the injury during his fourth-round match against Cristian Garin and was unable to recover in time for his scheduled quarterfinal on Wednesday.

De Minaur, ranked 22nd in the world, had been one of the surprise performers at Wimbledon this year. He reached the quarterfinals with a run of impressive victories, including wins over seventh seed Marin Cilic and 2018 Wimbledon finalist Kevin Anderson.

The withdrawal of de Minaur is a major setback for the Australian, who was hoping to reach his first Grand Slam semifinal. It also gives Djokovic a walkover into the semifinals, where he will face the winner of the quarterfinal between Roger Federer and Matteo Berrettini.
